State memorial complex KHATYN Tour
You will not find this small Belorussian village on any of the most detailed geographic map. It was destroyed by fascists in spring 1943. Khatyn has become a symbol of the tragedy of the Belorussian people during the Great Patriotic War.
At the entrance to the complex you will be met by a six-meter bronze sculpture of an old man with a boy in his arms. An old man is one of three survived in the fire, but his son tragically died. Sculpture reflects the real scene of the day of this terrible tragedy.
The "Memory Wall" will remind us of the death camps, in which a huge number of innocent people died. The largest of them are mentioned on this wall, with indication of their location and number of dead people.
The tour, however, has a more optimistic ending: we will leave the Khatyn village for a mound - the Mound of Glory - that was made up of the handfuls of ground brought by people from all over the country. Time and weather permitting, you will be able to ascend to the top of the mound and enjoy the superb view of the scenic Belarusian countryside. In front of the Glory Mound there is an open-air exhibition of military machinery – a popular spot for a couple of pictures.
